The Letters, previously only performed live in 1971, has, since its reintroduction onto the Crim setlist in 2014, become one of the undisputed high points of the Crim concert. Coming after the tussle between the baritone, sparkling guitar embers and shifting drum rolls, Jakko’s peerless reading of Peter Sinfield’s tale of betrayal and tragedy carries within such a sombre stillness, most venues adopt a pin-drop silence as he enters the final moments of the verse unaccompanied. It’s quiet a moment.
