There’s a lovely serving of Clams Crimsonique during a rousing 21st Century Schizoid Man. After a particularly athletic drum solo from Gavin Harrison the Crims rejoin and begin to move toward the unison fast-running lines except on this occasion the guitar is on the fritz and where there is supposed to be fleet-fingered fretting there’s a yawning gap. Harrison’s super-quick reflexes mean he delivers an impromptu extension to his just-completed drum solo for a few bars until the problem with the pedals is resolved and the guitars eventually hit the mark. This recovery in and of itself is impressive enough but borders on the miraculous when you realise Harrison has his back to guitar and this is all done with the ears and perhaps a wry sideways glance. Fun fact: if you added up all the drum solos Gavin turned in during the tour it amounts to around 47 minutes or so. Now, *that’s* a drum solo!
