With Sylvian and Fripp (then in its trio formation) taking a month off, The Robert Fripp String Quartet take to the road. This recording was made for a Living
Room Concert session on Echoes, the nightly music soundscape hosted by John
Diliberto and heard on over 120 stations across the USA. It contains many items of RFSQ repertoire which will be familiar. However, the second soundscape will raise a few earbrows even among those long-in-the-tooth RFSQ aficionados. Gunn and Fripp go head to head, creating a huge and awesome (in the original sense of the word) backdrop against which ideas are bounced back and forth between the pair of them. Crossing through a range of contrasting moods, fiery soloing from both players ensure this a hair-raising experience. Special mention must also be made of a delightful performance from Patricia Leavitt in the midst of the usual quality playing from Paul Richards Bert Lams and Hideyo Moriya.
