1985 proved to be a significant year in Fripp’s personal and professional life, marking as it did the founding of Guitar Craft and the development of a slightly different take on Frippertronics.

One year and a week after King Crimson had played its final gig in Montreal, Fripp undertook a short tour of in-store performances of record stores in Liverpool, York and London, with a couple of promotional appearances on local Radio.

Unlike his previous solo outings, here he’s abandoned his trusty Revox tape recorders and opted for an Electro-Harmonix Memory Man providing him with a 16 second delay to play with.

There’s a touching vulnerability to this performance for Manchester’s Piccadilly Radio, where the Roland guitar sythesiser settings have a tremolo effect that sounds almost koto-like. A delicate, fragile improvisation with a rhapsodic flurry in the final ten minutes.

Stillness, beautiful stillness
I was not quite expecting this, and it is gorgeous. As a previous reviewer aptly states, this is not Frippertronics nor is it quite Soundscapes yet. This profoundly meditative piece has Robert playing clean, dreamy guitar against a backdrop of resonant keyboard-like chords. This is not quite like anything he has recorded before or since. You will not regret downloading this.

Stunning
This is such an unusual, yet beautiful piece. It’s not quite Frippertronics, not quite soundscapes, although it is much closer to soundscapes. More than anything, it reminds me of parts of "The Illusion" from "Moonchild". Beautiful, rich, can just barely describe this piece.

lovely but 1/2 speed!
somehow this recording has arrived to us half speed. as a long time EH16 user (got my first one in 84’) was first tipped off to speed by fact loops are occurring at 30 sec +/- intervals ... timbre is also a dead give away. would love to hear performance at correct speed.

Elegant and beautiful.
Just gorgeous. I love Anne Laplantine’s work for similar reasons as I adore this, but of course her work leverages on digital cut-ups, whereas this just spills out, all in the moment, making it all the more perfect. Thank you Mr. Fripp.
