2025 Mister Stormy's Monday Selection begins with Go TLev.
Recorded in February 1994 this is a previously unheard extract from a DAT tape documenting the earliest days of 90s King Crimson. With Adrian Belew still unavailable, five members of the Double Trio met in the UK and crammed into the music room at Bill Bruford’s house to begin work. The sessions marked the first time Bill and Pat played together, with Pat using a kit Bill had borrowed from his neighbour, Kenny Jones of The Who. In this edited extract taken from a lengthy workout, we hear Robert say, “Go, TLev,” followed by the quintet cautiously navigating their way around Levin’s serpentine but minimalist groove. Though somewhat tentative and not fully formed, it’s fascinating to hear this new iteration of King Crimson slowly unfurling like a pupa emerging from its chrysalis.
