The influence of King Crimson is far and wide and often where you might not expect to find it all. Trumpeter Eric Dahlman is best known for his work in jazz and experimental music and he reveals it was hearing King Crimson’s ’74 swansong, Red that prompted him to explore a different musical direction. “I didn't really seriously start to improvise until college. Red by King Crimson opened up a new sound world, and experiencing the early '80s version of Crimson live in NYC was epic. For a while I was influenced more by Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew's electric guitars than any trumpet players. The latest eight-piece Crimson continues to inspire me with its orchestral scope and improvisatory surprises.” You can read the full interview with Eric here and check out his music over on his bandcamp site.
