Bredonborough.

A wonderful morning beginning by the back door…

Juliet Nicholson’s A Perfect Summer provides an enjoyable circularity of associations. In 1911 (p. 208) Dorelia McNeil  the long-term mistress of Augustus John , moved from London to Alderney Manor, near Poole, Dorset, with six of Augustus’ children under her care; she was visited by landlady Lady Cornelia Wimborne…  & http://www.thepeerage.com/p10632.htm of Canford Manor… http://www.canford.com/article_150.shtml aunt of Winston Churchill; the present Lord Wimborne was introduced to me in the 1990s by David Enthoven…  & http://www.markmccrum.com/pages/journalism/inside_the_jesters.htm

In the cellar, this morning I have been organising books while listening to Estonian Churchscapes. On these shelves are the set of RHS’ Dictionary Of Gardening volumes given to Dorelia by Augustus in 1952. On the flyleaf of Volume One is written To Dodo with love from Augustus 1952. The set was acquired by the Minx from The Wimborne Bookshop in the late 1980s & given to me as a present.

T’s Parents Barbara & Beric visited for morning tea, en route to the Farmers’ Market set up in the Square.

A beautiful morning in Bredonborough.

19.42 A wonderful day gentling productively at home.
