PETER GILES (17 June 1944)
After GG&F and his appearance on McDonald And Giles, Peter left the music industry and spent many years as a solicitor’s clerk. His eye for detail found him spending time working on behalf of the Performing Rights Society, tracking down the unpaid royalties of its members.

In 2001, he oversaw the release of demo tapes he had originally recorded in Bournemouth and in the flat at Brondesbury Road with GG&F, Ian McDonald, and Judy Dyble. Featuring several interesting pointers towards King Crimson – compositions such as Peace make early appearances in nascent form – it provided a more rounded view as to what GG&F were aiming at rather than their idiosyncratic Deram album. Released as Metaphormosis on Tenth Planet Records in 2001, a CD edition entitled The Brondesbury Tapes was also released that year.

Giles picked up his Fender Jazz bass once again to record and tour with the 21st Century Schizoid Band in 2002 continuing to play after his brother's abrupt departure and replacement by Ian Wallace, remaining with them until the band's demise in 2004. In 2009, he appeared on The Giles Brothers, a compilation of early demos and recordings of Peter and Michael’s pre-GG&F outfits such as The Dowland Brothers and Trendsetters.

Always a keen athlete, Giles proudly noted that in 2015, at the age of 71 no less, “I came 2nd in the 1500 m, and third in the half marathon, at the World Masters’ Track and Field Championships in Lyon, France. I also won team gold in the half marathon to complete my set of medals. Additionally, I won my age group running for England in the British & Irish Masters Cross Country (in Ireland) for the first time in November that year.”

Peter has continued to play bass and gigged with his keyboardist/singer wife, Yasmine as Aluna. in 2022 the duo released an album entitled, Insights “It’s the culmination of everything I’ve done so far. If somebody asked how long it has taken to do the album I’d say ‘my life so far’.”
