Veranos De La Villa

“Thank you very much, good evening,” says Adrian following a bulldozer rendition of Level Five. “I have but one announcement to make; please don’t take any photographs while we’re playing tonight. This man over here is kinda grumpy, he’s gettin’ kinda old, doesn’t like to have his picture taken and all that stuff. He will bugger off, he’ll bugger off and leave the stage so don’t take a picture. Take lots of pictures of Trey after the show,” he adds to general laughter from the audience.”

Does the open-air audience in Madrid pay any attention to this and the PA announcement that played over the opening soundscape? Fripp’s diary notes “Ade's announcement was followed immediately by a flash, just to let us know.”

Yet this is an incredibly strong show with some astonishing moments where it seems as though there’s double the number of musicians on stage such is the depth and power of the music and performance. This rendition of ProzKc Blues is a contender in the ‘best of the tour’ category, while there’s a razor-sharp aspect about Facts Of Life and Elektrik that has occasionally eluded these pieces on other dates. The savage intensity of Dangerous Curves adds yet another layer to the momentum of the show. Oh, and check out Frame By Frame - that's some serious finger-fraying cross-picking that is.
