The Sheltering Scape

Alex ‘Stormy’ Mundy has been experimenting with another bit of xenochrony as he folds different times and spaces in the Crimson/Fripp continuum together to create something new. Beginning with Bill Bruford counting off time ahead of a take for The Sheltering Sky in May 1981, his log drum is quickly joined by Fripp soundscaping in Hartford in June 1997. The soloing, which has been manipulated and slightly retuned to match its new surroundings, hails from July 1981 when the guitarist appeared at New York’s Washington Square Church.

Deceptively Natural

If you had told me this was done as one piece intentionally , I would never question it. Just goes to show that even a sound engineer is an artist and can bring together a beautiful piece of work. Fits seamlessly. I can only say; more, more!

Clever!

A great idea and works beautifully. You would never know these were totally disparate elements from different time periods. I'm curious if you worked out the key first and then searched for a soundscape and a Frippertronics piece in that same key and married them up or was this just a total fluke? It is rare to hear percussive elements with Frippertronics, but it does work really well as "timing" is not critical. Requiem from "Beat" touched on this as well, which I always loved. Great work!
