Fire and Brimstone Deluxe! October 24, 2007
Written by freshlet
I have always wanted to hear more of this remarkable lineup. The Zoom Club CDs, the Guildford Hall CD, and the Beat Club CD only hint at what this version of Crimson was on to. My enjoyment at hearing Muir and Bruford locked into rhythmic combat with Wetton’s phenomenal bass abilities is something that I would have loved to have seen myself. As it is, DGMLive has once again brought forth a wonderful historic gem! Robert’s playing is at times so beautiful, and at other moments vicious and ripping. David’s playing is always a pleasure to hear, and with the delicate passages folding into the aggressive measures of the music, he shows an amazing well of musical clarity with astute and passionate focus. I absolutely love the improvisations that this Crimson delivered. They are full of adventure, heart, passion, and never boring!! The fact that the rhythm section is not staying in a standard groove or pulse, but is continually inventing itself is so cool. This music does have many parallels in common with Miles Davis’ music from 1968-1972, yet it never copies that artists’ intentions. Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like to have Ian McDonald or Mel Collins playing some of their beautiful styles of Alto, Tenor & Soprano sax with this group. Thank you so much DGM for again releasing fantastic music from a long-lost period. Freshy

Also better than the three good-to-great KCCC releases that feature Mr. Muir. Bremen is perhaps the closest for me, but this does beat all of them. This concert contains the only 30-minute KC improv (or any other improv for that Read more

So... the Holy Grail did exist, and it happened to be a recording of KC from the Jamie Muir era. I don’t like giving ratings, but just for being such a rare item, I guess it deserves the 5 Read more
