To respond to SSImuse, actually, if my research is correct (or if Robert wishes to corroborate me), that Roland organ, the VK-1, was intended to be a Hammond simulation, but without key-click, a second keyboard, or rotary speaker simulation. A DI’ed Hammond organ would do just the same thing. That being said, what would’ve been really cool would be a GR-300 pad—filtered synth sound; slow, liquid, yet non-metallic flanging, and some long, yet not too loud reverb. That would be cool. I could see that playing against the more rhythmic components of the song.

This recording is of a powerful and passionate instrumental piece. The scales and rhythmic patterns are premonitions of future Crimson music. It sounds like it was re corded live in the studio. Read more

The performance on this one is certainly a five star, and except for the audience portions of the concert (i.e. the first 2:30 or so of Get Thy Bearings are almost unlistenable before a jarring return to the SB portion), Read more

Okay, first off, this concert only gets four stars because there are many more concerts available with better sound quality. It’s certainly listenable - but the sound is a bit ropey, dodgy, clunky (or whatever other made-up words you feel Read more

First off - the sound on this one is brilliant. The playing is astonishing and shows just how good of a player Mel Collins is. Two things that really standout out: The Improv (which would soon be replaced by Groon in Read more
