This is the finest performance I think I have from the 80’s four piece.

The band seemed to change between Beat and TOAPP yet here, there are breathtaking versions of all of my favourites from the time, Howler, Sheltering Sky, Sartori, and the Chordal blasts of Red and LTIA are ROUSING! Never before have I heard so many tracks that are superior to the studio version on one concert.

The drum intro to Indiscipline sounds like Duran’s Wild Boys - not to appear for another three years... ooer!

This is the definitive gig for that band - all that is missing (obviously) is Sleepless and TOAPP.

Buy it and tell me I’m wrong.

i attended this show.

it was originally sold as a seated show at the convention hall. $10.95

it was moved to the paramount theatre as a general admission show, due to poor ticket sales.

the convention hall holds 3600. the paramount holds 1600.

they are both across the hall from one another on asbury park’s famous boardwalk. between the two lies the grand arcade.

’nuff said. this show occurred at the paramount.

...& show from my fav KC lineup. Always loved the "electronic percussives, twin-guitar synth-noise terror, the whole rock-gamelan groove" of 81-84 & miss it in the KC since. There was an "energy", maybe even "joy" in the music. Wild stuff to be sure but the quieter moments are great as well. Having seen them twice back then at 16 & 18 years old I was blown away of course. Virgin ears perhaps? Yes, but I can (& have) listened to this material til the present day & it still speaks to me. If there was a tighter, more adventurous "rock" band going at the time I don’t know who it was. Can’t think of many (if any!) working even today.

I was there and it was an amazing show. The images are my scans of the free brochure that was available at the gig. But the best part of the gig for me and the group of friends I was with was getting down to Asbury Park early. We all lived in northern New Jersey. We got down there and what do you think we discovered? The doors to the Convention Hall were unlocked!!! So what do we do?? We quietly march in and find our way up into the balcony and guess who’s onstage doing their sound check? BB, TL and AB.!! We’re up there trying to keep quiet and not cheer. It was great. Until I noticed this guy in a black satin jacket, short hair cut and white sneakers walking down the center aisle toward the stage and he looks up at the balcony and notices us up there. He looked kind of familiar to me, I think he was wearing glasses... We weren’t sitting in the seats making our presence that obvious, we were keeping low at the edge of the balcony hoping not to be seen. But it was just too cool watching them warm up onstage. So, back to that OTHER guy with short hair cut, he walks away somewhere and in a few minutes, you guessed it, we were escorted out of the Hall by a polite bouncer. Anyway, that was my pre-concert adventure! For me not just a great show, but a great day!!!

I wish I could give this 6 stars! The sound quality is impecible. I went to the second show on the pier a few days later (Aug 2nd if I recall correctly). Oh, God, please tell me you are going to release those two shows with sound quality like this!!!!!

Thank You KC!
