On this day 40 years ago, an as yet unnamed King Crimson started playing in their brand new rehearsal facilities in the basement of the Fulham Palace Cafe. Ian McDonald, having gotten out of bed at 1.00pm, did some flute practice as well as playing the Mellotron that had been occupying his place.
Then at around 7.30pm, Dik, Pete, Bob and Greg to come and shift the 'tron to the new rehearsal rooms on the Fulham Palace Road. Once they had set up, McDonald's diary also reveals the band a blow until just after 10.00 p.m.
Afterwards, Ian dropped Bob and Greg back to their place and then went on to Peter Sinfield's flat where they ate and wrote tunes to "two new riffs."
