Notes
A strong performance that sees the team ripping through the setlist with an almost absurd level of confidence.
Yet it's always interesting that coming out of the heat of the main set, the improvised section of Thrak often comes across as somewhat tentative. It's as though the players are wary of dipping their toes in such uncertain waters. In this particular gig, the established fragmentary nature of previous improvs pretty much keeps each musician in their separate corners, rather than having any of them tackle each other directly. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't - which is an inherent risk in any improvised music setting.
A well-received run of Schizoid Man, Waiting Man and the adrenaline-infused Neurotica ensure the energy levels are kept running high until a temporary pit stop under The Sheltering Sky provides a modicum of shade from the bright lights. Gunn’s work here is stunning once again.
Old fave, Elephant Talk is dispatched with extreme vigour, while Matte, which can suffer from being played a touch too briskly, makes a lovely swaying appearance.
