Notes
Respected German guitarist and looper, Michael Peters, was at Cologne, and shared his thoughts on going to see the King in action with the readers of Elephant Talk back in 1996. Here’s what he had to say:

“I had not been too optimistic about this concert: Last year's KC Duesseldorf concert had been somewhat frustrating for me - although everything was perfect, I wasn't very thrilled for some reason. Now, reviews of the Thrakattak tour said that there were no new pieces, so of course I expected something like last year's concert to happen more or less again. I actually thought, why bother going there at all only to see the same old stuff?

Well, I went there anyway and I was thrilled to hear, yes, nothing but pieces that I already knew - but with an *amazing* amount of newness to them in arrangement and interpretation. All pieces had been worked on, not only the obvious classics like "Schizoid Man". The pieces were arranged in a much more interesting way and played with even more vigor, virtuosity, preciseness, and fun. (Sound and mix were also very good.)

The very same pieces that had left me (and many others), well, not very much impressed last year really blew my mind this time. Several times, I found myself crying at the sheer intensity of pieces I had never especially liked.”

Has it really been 15 years since KC played the Cologne Tanzbrunnen? No, they didn’t played, they blew it away!
The Dusseldorf concert the previous year I found a bit tame (I like it better listening to it these days, but I still think that the encore of Heartbeat and Sleepless gave it a bit of a pop-touch). Tanzbrunnen rocked. It underlined what a friend of mine once said about KC (listening to Earthbound’s 21st Century Schizoid Man): That’s Noise! Indeed, it was, but what a brilliant noise! The people on the other bank of the Rhine must have been puzzled...
I don’t think that the group enjoyed it that much: BB was angry dealing with monitor problems (I guess), TG wrote something about all those people smoking dope and RF looked at the audience shaking his head before he left, for whatever reason. For me, it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been. Thank you very much for making it available!
Greetings from Cologne
